Doordarshan runs a free-to-air DVB-T2 digital terrestrial service, but only in a limited number of cities (Prasar Bharati lists 19), and it needs a DVB-T2 set-top box or a TV with a DVB-T2 tuner plus an antenna. Most free TV viewing in India is via DD Free Dish, Prasar Bharati's free satellite service, which has no monthly or annual fee after a one-time purchase of a dish and set-top box (about Rs 1,500 to 2,000) and carries 160+ TV channels.
